Pauline, the founder and lead consultant at McKenna Consulting, utilizes her educational background and professional experience to champion disability rights and empower those with long-term illnesses.
Her qualifications include a BSc in Psychology (QUB), Postgraduate research in Psychology and Law (DIT), Certification in Mediation (Mediation Academy of Ireland), and an Advanced Diploma in Coaching with Neuroscience (PSG).
Pauline's passion for Disability Rights began in 1999 when she travelled to the USA to volunteer for six months in a community of adults with an intellectual disability. This experience sparked her passion for advocating the social model of disability. Through this experience, Pauline learned that it is very possible for people with disabilities to live the life of their choosing when a society removes its barriers.
Pauline’s career in the area of Disability Rights and Advocacy spans over 20 years, and has helped her to develop a deep understanding of the challenges and barriers faced by individuals with various types of disabilities, including physical, sensory, intellectual, and mental health.
Previous roles include:
- Disability Officer at Queen's University Belfast,
- Independent Advocate with the National Advocacy Service (NAS)for people with disabilities for over a decade (including the pilot phase of NAS)
- Regional Community Worker and National Information Line Worker with Multiple Sclerosis Ireland
- Advocacy Project Worker with Inclusion Ireland including training and experience in the production of Easy to Read ETR materials.
Pauline is currently contracted to provide individual life coaching to early school leavers with a disability through County Cavan Local Development (CCLD) as part of their Pobal funded service WorkAbility: Inclusive Pathways to Employment Programme.
Additionally, Pauline tutors in Level 5 Understanding Mental Health and Level 6 Team Leadership in her local ETB and is also a tutor with the Institute of Leadership and Management(ILM) team through her local ETB.
