Consultancy services

Employers face the challenge of balancing business profitability with the responsibility of providing fair, accessible workplaces for employees with a disability or a long term illness.

They must ensure compliance with legal requirements, offer reasonable accommodations, and create supportive environments, while still managing costs and maintaining productivity within the business.

At McKenna Consulting, we help employers navigate their legal duties within the disability/long term illness management process by providing expert guidance to protect both their business and their employees.

Through tailored support, McKenna Consulting ensures compliance, promotes fairness, and creates a sustainable, accessible workplace that benefits everyone.

Disability Awareness/Long-term Health Condition Inclusion and Equality Training for businesses

Our Empowerment Coaching for Individuals/Employees, rooted in neuroscience is a type of personal development coaching that focuses on helping individuals recognise and harness their strengths, capabilities, and resources to create positive change in their lives.

The primary goal of empowerment coaching is to enable individuals to take control of their personal and professional journeys, make informed choices, and cultivate a sense of self-efficacy and confidence.

Disability Awareness Training for Primary School Children

“We Are All Different and We Can All Be Friends” and “Small Steps of Kindness create big steps toward belonging” are disability awareness programmes developed by McKenna Consulting for Junior Infants up to Sixth class pupils.

“We Are All Different and We Can All Be Friends” introduces younger children (4 – 9 years) to the ideas of difference, kindness, and inclusion, using a soft and engaging approach featuring a teddy character called Cara Bear who has a disability.

“Small Steps of Kindness create big steps toward belonging” is designed for older children (10 – 13 years). The children are supported to receive the same messages about difference, kindness and inclusion in a more developmentally appropriate away through real life stories, interactive role plays and open discussions.

The purpose of the training (each session is 1 hour long) is to support children to become aware of how they can include everyone, including children who have a disability and to understand that everyone is different and that this is a wonderful part of being human.

Pauline McKenna Founder and Lead Consultant

Pauline, the founder and lead consultant at McKenna Consulting, utilises her educational background and work experiences to provide consulting, coaching and training solutions for business development and individual empowerment.

Her qualifications include a BSc in Psychology (QUB), Postgraduate research in Psychology and Law (DIT), Certification in Mediation (Mediation Academy of Ireland), and an Advanced Diploma in Coaching with Neuroscience (PSG, Marino College).

Pauline has a background in disability and human rights which date back to 1999 when she travelled to the USA to volunteer for six months in a community of adults with intellectual disabilities. This experience ignited her passion for empowering others and deepened her understanding of the positive impact of supporting people to feel seen, heard and valued.  This experience resulted in her being employed for the next 20 years in roles that focused on the empowerment of disabled people and people with a long term illness.   These insights have become the cornerstone of her approach to coaching leaders and employees in the business environment. She believes that fostering a culture that is strengths based and empowering is essential for unlocking the potential of  individual employees and teams.

Pauline has provided tutoring to businesses in Counties Cavan and Monaghan for the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) through her local ETB.  ILM courses covered Developing your Leadership Styles, Customer Service Training and Delegating Authority in the Workplace.

In addition, Pauline has also provided tutoring for her local ETB in Understanding Mental Health (Level 5), and Team Leadership (Level 6) that further enhance her Disability Equality and Inclusion Training for businesses.

Furthermore, McKenna Consulting is contracted by County Cavan Local Development(CCLD) to provide one to one Empowerment Coaching to young adults with disabilities to maximise their potential within the workplace.

Pauline also provides Empowerment Coaching to members of Crocus Cancer Support Centre Monaghan to empower them to move forwards with their lives, with a particular focus on empowerment within the workplace or return to the workplace.

An exciting recent development for McKenna Consulting has been to develop a Disability Awareness Training programme for primary school children.  McKenna Consulting is delighted to have the support of the County Cavan Local Development SICAP team to bring the training to life as a pilot programme to primary schools in Co. Cavan.   The training is the first of its kind to be introduced to Irish primary schools.

Disability Equality and Inclusion Training for HR professionals

Disability Equality and Inclusion Training for HR professionals

Having Pauline in with our full HR Team helped us learn together, the vocabulary and recent developments in the disability space. This has helped us gain a joint understanding and empathy to prioritise universal design as well as equitable accommodations to cater for our people's needs.  We were given the space to brainstorm about scenarios, share our own experiences, and more importantly challenged to think differently.  Pauline made the training relatable and was open to adapting the training to what we needed.

Working alongside Pauline in Crocus is an absolute pleasure.  The difference she makes in the lives of our members is incredible. I've seen people who came in feeling unsure and low in confidence, walk out of her sessions taller, more focused, and ready to take life on again.

The feedback from our members says it all.  They talk about how safe, supported and encouraged the feel after working with Pauline.  Many use the coaching space to navigate a return to the workplace or explore how to self-advocate to their employers regarding their rights in the workplace.

Pauline has a calm, genuine approach that makes people feel heard and valued, and that's where the real transformation begins.
